Here Are Your Relax Weekend Plans!
Many people think of Los Angeles as a dream resort-city. You will be surprised to find out that L.A. often tops the list of the most stressful cities in the United States beating New York City, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. Luckily, there are hidden magical gems spread around the city where you can put your daily worries aside and relax. It’s also great for day trip getaways with your girlfriends! We all know how restorative and healing that can be for a woman these days.
Whether you are a burned-out L.A. resident or a happy-go-lucky tourist, you can take advantage of many wonderful sites where anyone can relax, recharge and enjoy the beautiful scenery. In this post, I will cover places that were created specifically for meditation purposes. Come alone or bring your girlfriends, these spots are ideal for quality time with yourself and others.
1. Self-Realization Fellowship at Mount Washington
Concealed among steep hills of the North-East Los Angeles, Mount Washington is the home of the International Headquarters of Self-Realization Fellowship, a global spiritual organization founded by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1920.
You don’t need to be its member to appreciate lush green gardens overlooking Downtown Los Angeles and Verdugo Mountains. Since this place is relatively unknown even to long-time L.A. residents, it is not crowded with visitors. Hence, it is easy to find a quiet spot to meditate and relax.
Self-Realization Fellowship International Headquarters address:
3880 San Rafael Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90065
Open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am- 5 pm and on Sunday from 1 pm – 5 pm.
Useful tip: Go behind the main building for a hidden and quiet spot with an amazing view of the city below.
2. Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine
If you are staying near the ocean, then take a scenic drive along Sunset Boulevard and visit Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine. This is a tranquil oasis in a prestigious community of the Pacific Palisades.
You can stroll around the lake or seclude in covered areas of the meditation garden. This site offers a perfect opportunity to forget about your daily grind.

Pacific Palisades, CA 90272
Open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm and Sunday: 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm

3. Peace Awareness Labyrinth and Gardens
Peace Awareness Labyrinth and Gardens is a spiritual sanctuary located in the middle of vibrant Los Angeles. A former Italian mansion that used to be owned by the biggest winemaker in California is now a center for peace awareness.
The most famous feature of the site is the labyrinth which serves as a tool for meditation. Slowly pacing through its intricate path truly helps focus on the present, relax and put any worries aside. If you don’t want to walk the labyrinth, you can find some peace and quiet at the luscious gardens downstairs.
