ALL MY BURNING MAN OUTFITS FROM THIS YEAR!
What I wore, when and why.
If you have read my previous articles on this topic then you know that I have intentionally left my outfit post until last. While I agree that radical self expression is extremely important at Burning Man and while I encourage everyone to really try and customize their outfits as much as possible, I also wanted to present you with the atmosphere before going into my closely personal experience.
So, here’s how it all started.
For almost 6 weeks before Burning Man this year, our apartment turned into a non-stop workshop. We were passionately involved in an ongoing process of channeling our inner creatures into head pieces, tops and bottoms and everything in between! Shiny and bright components of our future creations had traveled into our lives from various Manhattan wholesale and craft stores, leaving our wallets evilly depleted and our apartment covered in what seemed to be a glitter massacre. It was everywhere! Some were even found in our underwear.
And almost every night we had friends over for crafting sessions! It was an amazing experience in learning and bonding! We hosted fun nights of crafting and dinners. Preparation for the Burn started promising!
And, as many of you know from my Instagram feed, we had an amazing cross-country adventure in our own private plane, with stops all over the US, before we even landed at Burning Man. So, by the time this picture was taken, we had already lived a amazing, once in a lifetime adventure!
So, in spirit of our airplane themed BM camp, called 747- Big Imagination, and to celebrate our amazing cross-country crew, we all dressed up for our arrival at the Burning Man airport! Here we are arriving at security gates with Nicholas and Anastasia! I’m holding a roll of plastic wrap, because we just spent the past half an hour wrapping our plane after landing onto the Playa. As i have told you in my previous stories, the dust is so fine that it gets into any cracks and openings and our steel bird had to be protected and safe throughout all the possible whiteouts and storms while we were partying.
And here I am getting fake-busted for drugs by security check at the gates! 🙂 No, really, they dropped a bag of white powder in a plastic bag onto our luggage at the BM airport security checkpoint and had the whole scene really well orchestrated! This was by far the best security check I have ever experienced!
First night on the Playa in front of Mirage, Brendan Burk’s art car. He’s our neighbor here in NY and a great photographer! And of course, we ran into him on the first night of the Burn! You have to go to Nevada to run into your neighbors on the first night out! 🙂 The irony of that place!

Our first day out on the Playa! Lana, John (the amazing duo I interviewed for my blog last year) and I stayed in the same camp and it was so much fun to share this Burn with them! They really are some of the most inspiring people I know. Read about what they do and how they live their best life- HERE.
I worked on these outfits for days. This headpiece was my last finished item for the trip. I had to take it with me on the cross-country trip, because I didn’t get a chance to finish it in time for the Disorient container to ship, so it had to travel with me. As I have shared with you in my previous post- Notes on the Burn- All Questions Answered, you can have your items shipped with a theme camp’s container. So we did that this year and it saves us a lot of time and trouble.

My bejeweled protective gear was all army gear made for the desert. These were some of the very first pieces I made for this year’s Burn and they basically set the tone for the rest of my outfits. Given that the theme this year was Carnival of Mirrors, it turned out pretty fitting.
Remember how it looked when I first posted it in my Instagram feed? 🙂
My tutu-Tuesday outfit. Accompanied by the custom pained boots (originally Mizz Mooz), that were a hit this year. I got so many compliments on my creativity!
Camel-pack and belt were also purchased at an army supply store, locally in Brooklyn neighborhood. With my favorite ladies- Anastasia and Lana.
And now to the center piece of my Burn- my best outfit. This entire vision started with this doodle…
… and became this!
I hand made everything in it, inducing the bra and the headpieces. Hundreds of small mirrors and beads went into making this creation and days of the most indulging, ecstatic process. And, of course, I have no real pictures of it. This Polaroid was gifted to me by a super-model friend, who came to visit Anastasia when we were body-painting people on the Playa on Wednesday. WhielI was hypnotized by her playa-dusted face and never-ending legs, I forgot to ask her to take a pic with my professional camera. And, so, basically, it’s now the only full body photo I have of this outfit.
Well, I believe this is because this outfit might have something bigger destined for it. I might have found out what that is in today’s meeting with an amazing artists I might be working with for the next Burn. Stay tuned while I’m getting super excited here in wait for more details.

And last but not least- my hand painted body that I didn’t get to wear until the very last day! To hand paint it I used acrylic paints for fabric and custom made patterns I made from paper tape and glued to the fabric before using a Temptu airbrush machine to spray it with paints. You can also use a sponge to achieve a similar result.

And so this was my Burn through my outfits. Which one is your favorite?
