Eco Cosmetics that Do the Trick
By Coach Antonia
Cosmetics use chemicals. Lots of them. And while they make you beautiful, what is the longterm price that we are all paying for our short term beauty – soft legs or a glam evening look? Can we achieve the same effects with eco cosmetics that not only are safe, but even add value to our skin and make it…better?
The world of eco cosmetics is an exciting industry, bustling with new comers and innovations. Let’s see who is out there, and what they’re offering for your beauty.
Goop and Juice Beauty
Category: Make Up
I bet you’re already clued into goop. But did you know, that our dear GP linked up with organic beauty product brand Juice Beauty to be their new Creative Director of Makeup? What have they come up with?
Their product line appears basic and mainstream – which is actually a great thing. In eco cosmetics, we don’t yet have the heavy hitters that make it popular and available to the mass audience. Their collaboration is positioned to do that. Not risking looking too earthy, everything looks polished, clean and sharp. Even a bit scientific, using words like “phyto-pigments” and “stem cellular”.
The price range starts at about $10 for their lip moisturizer, and goes to $39 for their best selling Stem Cellular CC Cream. Their product offerings includes the usual: concealers, foundations, lip glosses, eye liners/mascaras, blushes and bronzers.

RMS is my personal favorite and the only make up that I ever use these days. I met the owner at an insider-type, clean living store in the East Village, when I happened to be browsing her products and she happened to be there too. From meeting her, a gracious, knowledgable and engaging woman, I felt an instant trust to her products that she painstakingly created to be of the highest quality.
The more you read about their ingredients, the more you can fall in love with their philosophy that sets them apart from everyone else. They use ingredients that are alive. Other “natural” eco cosmetics often rely on ingredients that were once natural, and then processed beyond wits end – to only bear the appropriate label, but none of the appropriate benefits. RMS is the opposite.
Their price range is on the more exclusive side, from $26-$38, and their sizes are small – but their tiny jars last me for over a year. And their product offerings are so progressive! Their products are multifunctional, and they play well together. For example, its not just lip gloss, and then blush. They have it in one product called Lip2Cheek. Personally, I layer and mix their products with my fingertips, and live for their Living Luminizer which works on cheekbones, brow bones, lips, eyes, and even to highlight your neck around your collar bones. They’re expanding their line with the likes of nail polishes, mascara, and beauty oil.

Cacao+Coconuts is equal parts philosophy as it is natural products. Their mission is for you to re-claim an intimate connection with your body. Inspired by Coach Antonia’s time living in the Wild, they use ingredients traditionally used by communities who live close to the Earth. They want you to think about not just what you put on your body, but HOW. The products come with easily accessible rituals for increasing that special connection to yourself.
The products offerings are currently limited to body butters and body scrubs, and will expand to body oils, lip balms, and sacred ceremony accessories in the near future. The price range is in the $40-$50 range. Cacao+coconuts use certified organic ingredients and an ethic of handcrafting everything in-house.
